Inspiring generations – MAYA ANGELOU

 

This write up is dedicated to Maya Angelou. May her soul rest in peace.

It was during one of my not so good days that I came across her quote, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. I was so moved by that statement that I put it up as my Facebook (FB) status along with Maya Angelou’s name. I started reading more about her. And at the same time my FB status lighted up with ‘likes’ and ‘comments’. One of my friends also commented that “didn’t know that you are a Maya Angelou’s fan”. I was really proud.

I have quoted her in numerous occasions, her quotes have made me feel good about myself in the days when I needed that push. Today, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and thought as much as we know about her and her work, I would like to share some of my favourite Maya Angelou quotes.

Whenever someone tries to belittle your existence, think of this, “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”

 Faced with problems, think of, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

Something is making you unhappy, change it. “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude”.

Someone is trying to victimize you, think of, “A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy; a wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim”.

 Everyone is against you, “I learned a long time ago the wisest thing I can do is be on my own side, be an advocate for myself and others like me”.

 Above all, “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud”. 

“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive”.

Her words are ever so positive, incredible and inspirational!! May her words inspire you all and may she rest in peace.
