Disturbed, angry, sad
Left me out of words today
I can’t even begin to imagine
The state of the mother whose
Child had to suffer like that
As someone said ‘writing is clear thinking made visible’, and ever since I heard the news of the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl in Bangalore, I did not want to have a clear thinking. It left me helpless because the victim, the little girl could not let anyone know that she was hurt, the case was not reported for a long time, she did not even know what happened to her in school. Please do read about it in detail. I have attached a link to the incident http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-28340617. I am here to discuss on the topic of child safety, how to teach our kids on good and bad touch and what’s the right age to introduce the concepts. Just like you, I am finding it hard to let my little boy know the realities of the present day world. I know for sure, that when I go about the topic, it would be in a language that he would understand and associate with. He likes to call the good characters in films and cartoons as ‘goodies’ and the villains as ‘badies’. So I am planning to term them as ‘goodies’ and ‘badies’.
Tips and suggestions are most welcome
I saw an animated film called ‘Komal’ by Childline India.
KOMAL by CHILDLINE INDIA
It is well scripted and is made in a kid friendly way, easy for them to associate and understand. I wouldn’t lie but I haven’t yet shown it to my boy because I am not able to convince myself that my boy is big enough to understand the film. Kids are sensitive and so is the issue. I am sincerely asking you to share your views and ideas on how to go about it. Your views matter and can make a difference in someone’s life.
Much Love
Suranjita

Wonderfully written post and a timely one too. It is such a hard topic to broach with kids but a necessity never the less. Thanks for the video. Very useful resource for all parents.
Thank you very much Achu! And also for getting me back to writing!
I tell my daughter “Stranger Danger”.. Never to take things from ANYBODY(even our friends, no exception) without your parents present. I don’t know how much she understands the severity of that.. But she reiterates like a parakeet..
Very well taken issue Suranjita .. And good job in expressing it.. Looking forward to hear more from your corner.
Thank you very much Sanjukta! I will put down your ideas and compile it in another post.
