I wrote a few words and then pressed the backspace key on my computer. I tried to write again. And backspace. I highlighted the words to make them bold and coloured. Then decided to make it in Italics. Pressed the backspace again. I could see that one by one the letters kept on disappearing as if they never existed. It’s time killing but it has something about it. Something philosophical, something magical and something uplifting! Like that little key of backspace, everyone of us have it in us to start afresh, to give up on the hope of a better past, to embark on a undiscovered part within you and to write a new story. It feels great to tear a paper you no longer needed. The sound of ripping a piece of paper or folding and crushing a paper into the bin is therapeutic! It means at that particular moment you are done and dusted with that piece of information on the paper.
Be with me, I promise, my post is going somewhere. It’s just that sometimes, I am uncontrollable and unstoppable with the sudden explosion of words, which seem meaningless! We all have good days and our fair share of not so good ones. I thought my post would be dedicated to the little moments of magic that make an awful day into a one worth living for. Although living with a toddler and a six year old is exciting enough, but we all have are moments. Don’t we? You already have a lot on you platter: school run, work, tiding up, washing, but sometimes, you still manage to unlock that part of your brain where you don’t want to enter. It is the room of unpleasant memories———I will leave it to you to fill it up.
At that moment, logical thinking goes out of the window. Every little annoying thing becomes a part of a necklace of thought. You don’t like that necklace but you can’t help it as it’s too tempting to get angry with the people who were part of making that necklace. You have read a lot about forgive and forget but none to your rescue, your memories are still afresh in that little room in your brain. Block it, sush, quiet, thoughts go away but sometimes they are too loud. Ever happened? What do I do in that moment when everything seems to be linked with something triggering your emotions to burst out?
Let your tears come out and pick up that iron that is sitting quietly in the shelf. He must be used! You will see that slowly you have calmed down. The river of emotion is happy seeing the crease of your clothes flowing away to a distant land. It’s a great stress buster (coming from someone who doesn’t enjoy ironing as such). A phone call to someone you love talking to, exchange of a few kind words and you are back to your action packed life. I used to scribble my thoughts, strike them off and rip the page and crush it in the bin. Huh! Sometimes, a few bubble wraps around and you will be lost in the popping sound effects! Take a pencil and make a sketch, of course I meant abstract! Go for the vacuum cleaner and sweep the dust away. Wash the dishes and rewash them if you need to. Sometimes a cuddle does wonders as well. Those tiny brown things called chocolates, they do add to the magical moments (go easy on them though). One of my friends said that she was once really down and dragging her double buggy along a park. An old lady came up to her with a smile and said the most common things to say, ‘Are you ok’? ‘Take a seat’. Those little words changed her day. For her, it was magical! We all have our ways of dealing with a situation and things that strike a chord of magic for us. Sometimes, we don’t even have to find it, it just happens.
Most of us are so busy that sometimes those little unpleasant things go away with the thought of the rush hour traffic. But for the days, which are a little grey, remember you all have it in you to break your chain of thoughts and bring back the lost smile. I wouldn’t even ask you to wait for tomorrow, there is hope in the next few hours. Just be easy on you and let it pass through. We all have our moments….
