That time of the year

That time of the year, that time of the year when you look back and make those earth shaking resolutions. So let’s get on with them. Shall we start with mine?  I know that even if you don’t want to disclose them, they are there, secretly hidden amongst the resolutions of the previous years. Isn’t it? See, I am also one of you, I am also not comfortable with disclosing too much detail. So instead of calling them resolutions, I am going to call them affirmations.

1. I am adequate:

Whatever and however I am, I am adequate in myself.

2. I am doing the best I can:

I am doing the best I can for myself and my family. As a young mum to our first born, I had tried and tested many things. Some of the ideas failed royally, some of them were ok and some of them worked well. At that point of time, when I was thinking of trying something new or changing something, I always had the best intentions.  They looked right at that point of time, hence the decisions.

3. It’s ok:

It’s ok to feel just ok. Not great, but ok. I am not going to judge myself for feeling low or regretting the decision that made me feel only ok at the end of it.

4. Not aim for perfection:

In the pursuit of perfection, I have killed so many ideas. I am not going to do that any more.

5. Put my feet up:

I will mean it more and be kind to myself.

6. Not to please people:

Even a simple thing such as your decision to ‘not to talk to someone’ is hard. Because there are people and relationships involved. And you end up with those people just to please them. It’s more so because of position or authority. I am glad that this year, I have put an end to that and will continue to do so in the future.

7. Will not pass my insecurities to my kids:

We all have insecurities and we often conveniently pass them to our kids. I have made a conscious decision of not doing that. I know it’s going to be hard but I will try my best.

8. Make time for me:

I do that now but there are a few things in my list that would make me feel that I have fulfilled my potential. I want to make time for doing those things.

9. Time:

I am not confining myself and burdening myself with timeframes. I give myself unlimited time.

10. Flow with the flow:

Easy going is definitely not me. I aim and fret and fume to be on time and make my family do the same.  I will take things easy and not worry about the unknown. Seriously, there is no reward or special mention for worrying about the unknown.

Wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year!

  1. A Happy New Year to you too and may all you affirmations hold true for you! I think we have a similar approach, I’m deliberately not making resolutions this year because I know I’m doing my best and beating myself up over it isn’t going to help anyone!
