Inspired enough or may be not

Inspired enough or may be not

Hello! How have you been? It has been a while. Things were a bit messy at my end. I was recovering from the hospitality of the annual visit of viral fever in our household. The good news is that everyone is on the mend and I am trying to catch up with the millions of things that tend to pile up once you are not paying attention. When everything around you is screaming out loud, it is incredibly hard to feel inspired. Inspired enough to get to writing, forget about a good piece of writing but to produce anything of at least a descent quality. But I am giving it a go anyways. Pots and pans can be cleaned some other time. But half of my heart is in Havana na na…I mean in the kitchen sink. So I closed my eyes, and said a firm ‘NO’ to my head for implanting the ridiculous ideas such as switching on the washing machine, picking up things from the floor, dishes and tidying  up  instead of writing.  However, I went on to switch on the washing machine regardless. Just couldn’t help it. Do you do that as well? I mean you give yourself these tiny little barriers before resorting to doing what you should be doing.

‘Just sit down and do it’, I kept telling myself but the voice inside me wasn’t ready. It was ready to procrastinate. It was ready to give me millions of reasons not to write. Baby, school run, home, work and the list was endless. So unblocking the block, here I am presenting the tried and tested ways of doing what you want to do.

  • Change the place where you normally write

I am writing from my son’s desk today and want to see where it takes me. It’s a challenge to ignore the match attack cards and the books he is up to and to look beyond and concentrate.

  • Set yourself a tiny goal

I let my ten month old baby crawl around and the goal was to put down a paragraph before he finds a tiny little creature to put in his mouth. Beat the clock (baby).

  • To know that you may not be completely inspired

I have realised that even if you don’t feel completely inspired, you need to make an effort and along the way, inspiration may hit you.

The idea is not to give up when you feel like it. When I was going through that period of lack of inspiration, I kept telling myself that it’s not permanent and If I hang in there, this shall pass.

Much love
