Double digits, my little boy is 10! How? I mean how? Dragging, growling, shouting, running, laughing, encouraging, we are there! Big 10. I didn’t know anything and still don’t claim to know it all. However, at that time I did not have a clue. I remember getting my hospital bag ready and buying each and every item listed by the hospital. It included a lip balm and I remember getting that as soon as possible. I mean considering it’s importance in the birthing process, I had to get it! I still remember going to Mothercare for the first time in my life and was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of baby gadgets (in technical terms). I went there with my dear friend. Both of us were clueless. I picked up a newborn nappy bag and asked the sales assistant, ‘where does it stick on?’.  Wow, I can go on here but today the focus is my little 10 year old.

He is our first hand experience in parenthood. We have messed a lot of things in our silly ways. We didn’t know how to and so we tried and failed. Sometimes we did succeed. However, the way can only be forward and upward from here. How can we make it better for him? Because very soon he is going to embark upon his crucial and hormonal teenage years. I don’t have a reference point as I will be a first time mum of a teenage boy soon. I have to prep myself for everything: The all important sex education before he knows it from his colleagues and what not. Shall I write about 10 things I will do? Nah, because it will be more than 10, I just know it.

I pinched myself when I talked to him about his experiences as a 9 year old. Is he really going to be 10? My baby, when did he grow up? You are with me right? Or am I getting emotional? The crux is that they grow really quickly in between the school runs and dinners. In between the ‘as good as gold’ phase and bouts of shouts. In-between the projectile vomiting and getting better phase. In between birthday parties and weekend activities. I want to soak it all up today and live in the moment because tomorrow he is going to a bit more bigger.

Happy Birthday my 10 year old! May you learn to be happy in little moments of life!
